Multi-tasker
Niacinamide
Also: Vitamin B3 · Nicotinamide
Vitamin B3, in the form your skin can use. Evens tone, regulates oil, and quietly does the most work in any routine.
What it is
The amide form of vitamin B3. One of the most studied skincare ingredients of the last decade — efficacy data exists at 2%, 4%, 5%, and 10% concentrations across multiple skin concerns.
How it works
Inhibits the transfer of melanosomes (pigment packets) from melanocytes to keratinocytes — the mechanism that produces dark spots. Strengthens barrier lipid synthesis. Regulates sebum production at higher percentages. All without irritation.
Who it is for
Almost everyone. Particularly useful for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (the dark marks acne leaves behind), oily skin, and compromised barriers.
What to watch for
Concentrations above 5% can cause flushing in some people. Start at 2–4%. Compatible with virtually every other ingredient in skincare.
